Ask the Expert: What’s something students are surprised to learn about PLU’s Recreation programs?

Many students are surprised by just how much PLU Recreation offers – not just for fun and fitness, but also for paid jobs, leadership development, and unique experiences.

For example, Lutes can teach exercise classes, and PLU covers both their certification and the classes they teach. Students can also earn Wilderness First Aid certification while designing and leading over 40 trips, hikes, and outdoor activities each year – including planning the Spring Break Outdoor Rec trip (this year’s destination is Yellowstone National Park).

Intramural sports leagues run year-round, giving students countless ways to blow off steam, meet new friends, and compete – sometimes even against staff teams. Taking inspiration from PLU legendary Coach Frosty Westering’s philosophy, “Make the big time where you are,” we bring our intramural softball championship to the next level by broadcasting the game each year with a full play-by-play cast, plus pre-game and post-game shows, so friends and family can tune in and cheer on the teams.
