Step 5: Plan for review time

There are three levels of HPRB review: exempt, expedited, and full board review.

The Mentor diagnostic pre-survey will help determine which level of review the project will likely require. The HPRB will make the determination about level of review upon receipt of the proposal, based on the information provided.

Learn about levels of review

The average review times of each category are:

Exempt: 6-8 days
Expedited: 8-10 days
Full Board: Plan to submit at least 1-2 months before needing to begin your research. Full board proposals can involve revisions before approval.

Ultimately the timeline will depend on how complete the application is, the workload of the HPRB, and the responsiveness of the researcher in addressing HPRB questions and concerns.
