Step 6: Plan for review time
There are three levels of HPRB review: exempt, expedited, and full board review.
The Mentor pre-survey will help you determine which level of review your project will likely require. The HPRB will make the determination about level of review upon receipt of your proposal, based on the information you provide.
The average review times of each category are:
Exempt: 6-8 days
Expedited: 8-10 days
Full Board: Plan to submit at least 1-2 months before needing to begin your research. Full board proposals can involve revisions before approval.
Ultimately the timeline will depend on how complete the application is, the workload of the HPRB, and the responsiveness of the researcher in addressing HPRB questions and concerns.
