All documents must be written in language understandable to the participant. The HPRB reviews your materials very carefully to ensure a wide audience will understand them.
All documents that your participants will see should be written:
- at no higher than an 8th grade level (similar to a popular magazine or newspaper) and with no discipline-specific jargon;
- in the second person (“you are invited to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey, give a blood sample…”); and
- as if the author and the reader are engaged in conversation.
Please read carefully through the following sections, so you will be adequately prepared before you submit. This will help to ensure a much smoother review process and fewer required revisions (called stipulations).
