From Arriving to Thriving: COVID-19 Safety during NSO

Pacific Lutheran University is focused on delivering the best possible student experience while reducing risk to our students, faculty, staff and communities. With that in mind, our COVID-19 response includes strategies to help reduce spread of COVID-19, as well as changes to our learning, working and residential environments to promote safety. During LUTE Welcome New Student Orientation (NSO), guests of students are expected to follow the same public health measures that all students, faculty and staff follow. Our goal is that all Lutes feel safe so that they can focus on enjoying orientation.

Your well being is the most important.

  • Stay home if you are sick!
  • Please review these CDC Guidelines to determine if you should come to campus.
  • Please practice good hygiene while on campus. Wash hands frequently and use hand sanitizer stations. For more information on safe practices, please visit the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department website.
  • If using a space where cleaning kits are provided, please wipe down your desk/table or other surfaces after use

Masks are not required in most situations on campus. We encourage anyone who feels more comfortable wearing a mask to do so.
Mask are required in the following situations:

PLU requires all students (except students in online-only programs), staff, and faculty – to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before arriving on campus, with case-by-case exceptions made for medical or religious/right of conscience reasons. More information on providing proof of vaccination or submitting an exemption request form can be found here.

If you are bringing a family or support person with you to NSO, your orientation guest will be expected to follow the above guidelines and precautions. Your guest should remain at home if they are sick or meet any of the above CDC COVID exposure or active case guidelines.
