Section 1. AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION
- A proposed amendment to the Constitution will be placed on the agenda of the Faculty Assembly at the request of the Board of Regents, the president of the university, any faculty committee, or at the written request of any fifteen members of the faculty.
- Such amendments must first be brought to the Faculty Senate in two meetings at least one month apart.
- At the meeting of the senate in which the amendment is introduced, the amendment may be discussed, but no other action may be taken. Within one week of that meeting, the secretary shall communicate to all faculty the text of the proposed amendment.
- At the second meeting of the senate considering the amendment, it shall have priority over other unfinished business. The proposed amendment may be amended. A vote will be taken on the proposed amendment, which is advisory to the assembly. Within one week of this meeting, the secretary will communicate to all faculty the content of the proposed amendment and the results of the senate’s advisory vote.
- At the next Faculty Assembly meeting, which must take place at least 3 weeks after the second senate meeting, the proposed amendment shall be priority over unfinished business. Amendments to the proposed amendment must be submitted, in writing, at least one week before the assembly meeting.
