Amber Peterson, Therapist in Training

Hi, I’m Amber Peterson (she/her). I’m a Native and Caucasian woman from the Midwest. I came to the Pacific Northwest through my spouse’s work in the Navy. I’m passionate about the growth and healing journey. I truly believe in our ability to use life’s challenges to gain perspective, broaden our connection, and better understand our innermost feelings. I feel people are a culmination of their experiences, and that each person can use those experiences to reach their full potential. As a therapist I approach clients with a non judgemental and curious view to better understand their unique situation.

For 8+ years I have worked with disabled and terminally ill children of active-duty military members. Providing respite care to families has been invaluable and helped me better understand complex family dynamics, LGBTQIA+ challenges in our culture, grief, and complex trauma. In addition to this, I am a Washington State Licensed Massage Therapist. My practice in this area gave me great insight into the intricate mind-body connection, helping me understand chronic illness more as well as the importance of emotional regulation.

In my new role as a Marriage and Family Therapy student I am open and interested in meeting people from all walks of life. I have a special interest in clients who experience physical symptoms related to their mental health, BIPOC and marginalized individuals, military families, parents, couples, and individuals seeking to expand their understanding of destructive patterns. I practice a systemic, culturally sensitive approach that pulls from various theories while exploring the impact of individual relationships and life factors.

I look forward to getting to know you and working with you towards your goals!
