Jay Schmucker, Therapist in Training
Hello! My name is Jay (he/him) and I am a student working towards my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I received my B.A in Psychology at the University of Washington, Tacoma. From my experience at Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare, I also built up experience working in-patient with those navigating addictions, severe mental illness, and homelessness. I work with individuals, couples, and families, from all backgrounds and walks of life.
I believe that we are always doing our best to be our ideal selves, but sometimes need help getting where we want to be. Staying connected with ourselves and others is an essential part of our well-being and I am passionate about helping people create healthy relationships in a non-judgmental and supportive therapy space. When you come into the therapy space, you will be bringing your own unique life story and experiences. It is my utmost commitment to create a safe space where you may tell this story and work with me to discover how you’d like to write the next chapters in it.
I approach therapy in a collaborative and systemic manner, drawing on many modalities to suit your unique needs and backgrounds, but always striving to move with empathy and curiosity. I recognize that we all benefit from multiple ways of learning and I strive to incorporate multimedia means of exploration into the therapy space, such as music, drama, art, role-plays, games, and more.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing games with friends and family, exploring the natural beauty of our state, and spending time with my cats.
