Smart boards are interactive whiteboards that can be drawn on with touch-sensitive pens. Some are free-standing screens with a projector that displays the full screen image. Others are wall-mounted like a large LCD screen. And others, like the Smart Podium, are smaller computer displays that can be operated on a podium with a touch pen and displayed to a large screen. Smart boards allow instructors to draw onto the screen, just like a white board. They can also be used to add interactive pen overlays to computer programs such PowerPoint or Excel. The resulting overlays can be saved and distributed to class participants if desired. Interactive software such as Smart Notebook provides tools for preparing and using smart boards in instruction.
